Reporting to head of biology, lead a group of in vitro assay biologists, coaching group members to improve skills and productivity
Independently design, conduct, optimize and proactively troubleshoot screening assays
Develop, optimize and validate biophysical, biochemical and cell-based assay platforms for the hit identification, lead optimization and functional characterization of small molecules
Work on the bench implementing state-of-the-art technologies for the different assay platforms- managing motivating and training junior members within the group
Ensure robust and high-quality assays with efficient use of automation and instrumentation
Data processing, interpretation and presentation to cross-functional team members
Proposing, planning, quoting, tracking reagent needs, usage and executing timelines for each study
Work closely with other biology groups involved in cellular and molecular biology, protein biology/chemistry, and ADME, offering integrated drug discovery support alongside chemistry for multiple client-based projects
Strong experience of working with small-molecule drug discovery from a CRO/Drug Discovery company/Translational Research with an ability to efficiently handle time-bound and service-based projects
Should have a minimum of 2 years experience in the relevant profile.
Broad research experience in cell-free and cell-based assay development like using luminescence and fluorescence-based methods. E.g. FRET, TR-FRET, FP, Anisotropy, HTRF, BRET, AlphaScreen, etc. (however not limited)
Experience working with board target classes -e.g. enzymes, GPCRs, transporters, ion channels, surface receptors, etc. across different therapeutic areas
Strong experience in medium and high-throughput screening using cell-free and cell-based assays
Experience with binding assays - particularly hands-on experience with Surface Plasmon Resonance (SPR) or Microscale Thermophoresis (MST) will be an advantage
Ability to plan and design experiments, order reagents, set up assay platforms and deliver them in a timely fashion
Experience in the generation of stable cell lines required for cell-based assay development and screening
Understanding of basic molecular biology, cell biology and biochemistry experiments will be an advantage
Managerial experience of junior scientists
Excellent data analysis and interpretation skills
Ability to participate in project team meetings and contribute to the project(s) intellectually
Ability to overcome technical challenges and exercise sound judgment under pressure
